This is a short post explaining the very basic fundamentals of role play, and I very much encourage others who are far more experienced than I am, to comment and add to this post.
1. Emoting - you don't type LOL you would emote *laughs*. Everything is spelled out. Google dictionary is your friend, though sometimes typos make the best quote thread submissions. (*coughsCockpickingcoughs*)
2. Open actions. For example, my Zoe has quite the temper and often will throw a dagger at someone. But I don't emote the outcome, it's up to the person I throw the dagger at if they get hit, dodge it, etc. This means actions can take a little longer to get the full effect of it, as everyone has to type things out, buuut, we are against forcing anything happening to someone's character without their permission.
3. Speaking of permissions, the above mentioned leaving it open for people can be negated if the player agrees. Example, many years ago when I first met Eric and he kidnapped Kiko, it was already decided that Kiko would be kidnapped, she was a wimp that wasn't going to fight back, so I gave him freedom to just have at it, instead of waiting for me to respond because 20 minutes of me emoting back *is punched, is thrown to the floor* seemed silly, as the likely hood of anything other than what he emoted happening was slim to none.
4. Polite PvP/Sparing. Basically, this isn't production shard Fel, even if you are looking for a fight, you have to make sure the other player is there, they have to have the option of fleeing the battle, etc. No matter what your character is like, YOU MUST ALWAYS RESPECT THE PLAYER. (losing a pvp fight, means you get to play an injured character, and that can always be fun too! We do have wheelchairs added to our server....)
5. Speaking of respect, some of us greatly enjoy playing a not so nice character, or a good guy character that happens to be an arrogant twit or someone that is flat out rude. Just like in real life, there are all kinds of people here and having cookie cutter personalities would be boring. BUT PLAYING A RUDE/MEAN CHARACTER IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR BAD BEHAVIOR. If the PLAYER expresses hurt feelings or if REAL feelings become involved at any point, then the RP needs to stop right then, and the players' needs are to be taken care of.
