It’s bound to happen in any RP community. Cliques are formed, and that leaves people feeling left out and leads to hurt feelings.
Few problems:
1. Cliques in general
2. Lack of clear communication
Solutions:
1. Don’t be afraid to invite new people into a clique. I get it, we all have people we get along with better than others, and for various reasons. It happens, it’s human nature (or elven/dark elf/vampire/mutt…what have you). But we should all remember that some of the best RP and instances in our lives has been we’ve let go and given someone else a chance, so don’t be afraid to let other people join in!
2. It’s okay to say “Yes, we are RPing, but it’s kind of mushy romance stuff right now, but we’ll let you know as soon as it’s over and meet you somewhere!” Obviously, not all RP can be joined in all the time. If someone has underdark RP going on…well if you don’t have your own dark elf that’s part of the underdark, or a character that would be a prisoner there, it’s kind of hard for you to join in. (This is also why we encourage people to make both 'hero' and 'villain' characters and to make a variety so you can bring someone that fits with any situation!)
Other reminders:
Giving cryptic non-answers to direct questions, is annoying at best, rude and disrespectful at worst.
If you aren’t willing to post any updates about the RP you are partaking in, you don’t get to complain that no one else is joining in or having fun with it, BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE KNOWS ABOUT IT.
And there’s NOTHING wrong with flat out saying “Hey! Lets RP!” as a way to ask others to RP with you. (“I’m bored” does not convey that message clearly.)
It’s also not a bad idea when others join the chat channel, to say “Hey, we are RPing, want to join?”
Last but not least, “mushy” can be code for we’d like some RP privacy.
Thanks for understanding!
